As a 36-year veteran of public education with over 25 years in district-level administration, I have extensive experience in the daily operations of school districts including personnel issues, professional development & evaluation, strategic planning, legal compliance, special education policies/procedures, curriculum/instruction, and academic and fiscal accoutability. I have managed multi-million dollar budgets (state and federal) and supervised staffs ranging in number from 5 to 185. I am a certified grant writer and managed my district's Medicaid program for 18 years. I have also taught as an adjunct professor for 5 South Carolina universities. I am very student-oriented and support only the most innovative programs. I keep abreast of current research and believe that most decisions concerning the school district should be data-driven.
I would like to serve Provost Academy South Carolina as a board member because I strongly support the mission and purpose of public charter schools. I would be honored to play an instrumental role in taking a solid, innovative, reputable educational institution to even higher levels of excellence. I believe that my expertise and extensive experience in the many facets of public education will be an asset to the board as it seeks to advance the presence and mission of the Provost Academy of SC.
Kent has been in the insurance industry for 26 years as an adjuster, supervisor, and most recently as an auditor. He has worked in multiple states with a myriad of people and organizations, including policy holders, employees, general contractors, consultants, attorneys, accountants, etc. He has developed interpersonal skills in dealing with individuals and groups from both cooperative and adversarial perspectives.
Kent is a parent of a Provost student and he is very familiar with the needs of families that may seek an alternative to “traditional” school. He feels like a virtual environment has worked for his family and he would like to help others find success at Provost Academy also.
Henry Scott served with the United States military from 1961 to his retirement in 1999. He served with both the active duty Air Force and Reserve forces. As a Flight instructor, systems instructor and flight engineer, he spent over twenty of those years working with young men and women who were just beginning their military careers.
While working at his various instructor duties, he flew presidential support for Presidents Reagan, Bush and Clinton. Post 9/11, he worked for a White House contractor on bio weapon detection systems.
His training and life experiences, plus having had a student at Provost Academy for two years, have given him a valuable perspective in his role as a board member.
